CONS

The OPPO Find N3 Flip represents a massive milestone for OPPO in the foldable market. Unlike its larger book-style sibling, this pocket-sized clamshell flip phone received an official commercial launch in South Africa, bringing high-end style and an innovative cover screen directly to the mainstream market.

Price & Market Availability

Starting around ZAR 18,000 for cash deals (and often sliding lower into the ZAR 12,000 to ZAR 15,000 range for certified pre-owned or promotional trade-in packages), it offers a highly competitive gateway into premium foldable tech.

Because it was officially launched by OPPO South Africa, it enjoys full commercial distribution. You can comfortably walk into retail stores, browse specialized tech sites, or sign up for contract packages across major local networks:

  • Network Operators & Partners: MTN, Chatz

  • Online & Tech Specialists: Takealot, Cellucity, 4U, Hi Online

  • Major Retail & Department Outlets: Foschini, HiFi Corp, Makro, Game, Mr Price, PEP, Ackermans

What Makes the Find N3 Flip Stand Out?

The flip phone market is highly competitive, but OPPO carved out a distinct edge by fixing two of the biggest historic complaints about clamshell foldables: weak cameras and unhelpful cover screens.

1. The Only Flip Phone with a Dedicated Telephoto Lens

OPPO shattered the status quo by packing a complete Hasselblad-tuned triple camera system into a flip form factor. Alongside the 50MP optically stabilized (OIS) main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide lens, it includes a 32MP telephoto portrait lens with 2x optical zoom. This allows you to take stunning, high-clarity portraits using the phone’s hinge as a built-in tripod.

2. A Highly Functional Intuitive Vertical Cover Screen

Instead of forcing a square or horizontal outer display that squashes text, OPPO went with a 3.26-inch vertical cover screen that mirrors the aspect ratio of a normal phone screen. This lets you open and fully interact with standard apps—like checking WhatsApp chats, scrolling through Google Maps, or controlling Spotify—without needing to flip the main screen open for every single task.

3. Invisible Crease and Tough Hinge Engineering

When unfolded, the gorgeous 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED inner display features an ultra-smooth 120Hz refresh rate. Thanks to OPPO’s proprietary Flexion Hinge, the screen folds completely flat with no visible gap for dust to creep into, and the notorious center “crease” is practically invisible to the touch during normal use.

The Trade-offs to Keep in Mind

  • No Heavy Water Submersion: The device carries an IPX4 splash resistance rating. While it will effortlessly survive a rainy day or a spilled drink, it does not feature the full IPX8 waterproof rating found on some rival foldables, so it cannot be dropped in a pool.

  • No Wireless Charging: To keep the phone remarkably thin and make room for the larger triple-camera module, wireless charging was left out. However, it compensates with a substantial 4300mAh battery and 44W SUPERVOOC wired fast charging (getting you to 50% in roughly 23 minutes).

  • Premium Upkeep: While the hinge is built to survive hundreds of thousands of folds, flexible glass technology naturally requires more care than a standard brick phone. You will want to stick to the pre-applied factory screen protector to keep the folding panel pristine.
